Paul Holmes MP and Chesterfield Liberal Democrats: Listening to and Fighting for Chesterfield

BROWN'S PRE-BUDGET REPORT OFFERS NOTHING FOR CHESTERFIELD

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 6th Dec 2006

Commenting on the pre-budget report delivered today, Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield said: "This is another example of Gordon Brown's spin over substance. "This pre-budget report offers nothing to the people of Chesterfield:

  • No end to Gordon Brown's £5 million per year under funding of Derbyshire's police.

  • No end to Gordon Brown's £9 million per year theft of money from Chesterfield Council tenants.

  • No end to financial and job cuts at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

"Gordon Brown's legacy as Chancellor will be spiralling personal debt, inaction on the environment and wasteful government expenditure. This pre-budget report will do nothing to solve these problems."

Note: Personal debt is now at record levels and is unsustainable. Green taxes as a proportion of GDP have fallen from 3.6% to 2.9% while CO2 emissions have risen 3% since 1997. Wasteful government expenditure is now costing the British taxpayer £30,000 a minute.
