Paul Holmes MP and Chesterfield Liberal Democrats: Listening to and Fighting for Chesterfield

GOVERNMENT MUST STOP CYNICAL ATTACK ON POLICE PAY

12.00.00am GMT Wed 23rd Jan 2008

Paul Holmes MP will today meet with police officers who are taking part in a mass lobby of Parliament.

Commenting Paul Holmes MP said:

"The Government's treatment of the police has been an utter disgrace.

"They are not allowed to go on strike - it is therefore essential that independent pay awards should be honoured. Instead Gordon Brown has refused to pay the full 2.4% awarded to the police to allow their pay to stand still at inflation levels.

"The Government are breaking their covenant with the police just as they have with the armed forces.

"It is high time that the Government stopped this cynical attack on police officers."
