1,000+ Sign Car Park Petition!

As you will know, when the Labour run Chesterfield Council put Ashgate Road Car Park up for sale there were concerns that congestion on local streets would worsen. It's already very bad on some local roads.

Chesterfield Lib Dems supported those views and decided to collect signatures on a petition to force a debate about the contentious proposal. Under Chesterfield Council's rules 1,000 signatures are required to trigger a formal debate.

Separately, Labour's two councillors in Brockwell also started a petition but unfortunately set an early deadline for handover that meant their submitted paperwork was knowingly below the threshold. We decided we couldn't leave the proposed sale unchallenged and set about collecting the minimum 1,000 ourselves - which we recently achieved with ease. We handed the petition over on 20th November.

A debate to explore other options than the sale of the site has now been scheduled for the full council meeting on the 16th December.

Thanks again to all those that signed the petition
